Napier has been yarn bombed in honour of the Rugby World cup. The Art Deco statue on Emerson Street was thusly decorated last week. Unfortunately I walked by today and she and her dog are now naked again.

In case you hadn’t heard, the Rugby World Cup started here in New Zealand last night. This is the biggest sporting event New Zealand has ever hosted, and the country is going all out trying to make a good impression on the visitors and viewers.

Though not the dominant culture here, Maori culture is definitely the most interesting and impressive. Check out another haka flash mob, this time in downtown Auckland.
