One of the most popular Christmas songs here in New Zealand is this one by an American band about an American comic strip character flying in France with British Allies against a German enemy.

The first time I heard this song was in 1999 at Napier’s Carols by Candlelight in the Botanical Gardens.  I was so confused.  I had never heard it before but everyone there, even the little kids, knew all the words by heart.  Also it’s not much of a carol.

Flight of the Conchords do a charity song for Red Nose Day.  Kinda long video, but you’ve got to watch the whole thing for the song (which starts at 10:15) to make sense.

i.e. Ian McKellen’s one-man show where he talks about his career and performs scenes from his notable roles, and lots of Shakespeare.  I hope she’s inspired, and not bored to death.
