In case you hadn’t heard, the Rugby World Cup started here in New Zealand last night. This is the biggest sporting event New Zealand has ever hosted, and the country is going all out trying to make a good impression on the visitors and viewers.

Though not the dominant culture here, Maori culture is definitely the most interesting and impressive. Check out another haka flash mob, this time in downtown Auckland.

God Defend New Zealand

I’ve posted the New Zealand National Anthem before, but I finally found this, my favourite version.  This is the version that the Ministry of Education provides to the primary schools for the kids to learn from.  I especially love the haka in the middle of this one…  When the kids perform it at school assemblies, I tear up (though anthems usually move me and make me cry).
