A footnote to Amanda’s Wedding Blog…from someone referenced in the blog:

All the single ladies line up for the tossing of the bouquet.  See the chick in the silver dress?  Amanda Palmer.  Check out the look in her eyes.  No one is getting in her way.

Except maybe Katie.  Amanda gets smacked down.

But she still walks away with the bulk of the prize.

In case you’re local… Amanda Palmer is touring Australia and New Zealand right now.  Check out her upcoming shows and go if you can!  She’s awesome.

Holy crap, Neil Gaiman reblogged me!  Can I squee?  Do people still squee?

What I find most amusing is that I originally posted this 2 years ago, and the last bit, about Amanda touring Australia and New Zealand, was true then, was true this time last year, and it’s true again now.  She just can’t stay away.

This year it’s a bonus, though, because she’s touring with Brian Viglione as the Dresden Dolls.  I’m so excited to see them live together, I’m flying down for the Christchurch show as well as driving down to the Wellington show.

She’s so FIERCE. I still haven’t looked into the Dresden Dolls, but I really love her voice.

pretty sure this is one of the best interviews with her i’ve ever seen.

Love her face.
Love her body.
Love her voice.
Love her laugh.
Love this interview.
Love. This. Fucking. Woman.
Amanda. Fucking. Palmer.

Can’t wait to see her again!

I’ve got my tix to see the Dresden Dolls in Wellington in January.  So excited!

This is Nyssa’s favourite song right now.  She’s 5 years old.  When she asked me what “Formidable Marinade” means I told her “Scary Sauce.” When she asked what “ravish” means I told her “to grab someone” (which is essentially the first definition for it in the dictionary).

According to Nyssa, her favourite part is “The steam that rises from the water tells me you’re a Satan’s daughter. If I am the devil’s son, into the darkness we should run.” But the line I catch her singing to herself most often is “I’ll feast on your body if you feast on mine.”  She tells me it gets stuck in her head.

#5 - Don’t Panic: The Official Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Companion by Neil Gaiman
Today (in the States at least) is the 10th anniversary of Douglas Adams’ death, so I thought it apt to note the 5th book I read towards my New Year’s Resolution.  (I’ll go back to #4 later.)  I loooooved reading the Hitchhiker’s 4 book trilogy when I was young when it was first published.  I think I must have read the whole series 3 times through.  My brother got this companion (really a ‘history of’ type book) back then, and for some reason I never read it before.
When Neil’s wife, Amanda Palmer (an old friend of mine from college), came to stay with me in February, I pulled this book out of the boxes and boxes of books we shipped over here when we emigrated.  She had never seen it before, which is not surprising given it’s age (over 20 years old).  Apparently when she spoke to Neil that night on the phone she played “Guess which of your books I’m holding right now” with him, where he would say a page number and she would read the first sentence on that page.  It took him 5 pages to figure out which book it was.  Which is probably due to the fact that he’s written like a million books.
Anyways, when I was cleaning the spare room after Amanda left, I found this random photo of Neil signing something for some random people.  I have no idea who they are, where they are, or what is going on.  Amanda didn’t want it back. So I used it as a bookmark while I read this book.  Then I gave it to a friend who’s favourite book is American Gods.
Anyways, the book itself was funny and interesting, though obviously dated.  It’s amusing reading about efforts to make a movie, now that a movie has actually been made.  If you can find this book, and you’re a fan of Douglas Adams, it’s definitely worth a read.

Amanda Palmer’s ninja gig in Napier, New Zealand.

My girls are among those climbing trees in the background.  They sat nicely and listed for the first song (not featured in the video - Makin’ Whoopee) but then couldn’t resist the lure of the trees.
