In New Zealand campaigning on the final election day - Saturday - is illegal. This includes wearing party t-shirts, displaying candidate signs on your lawn, driving around with a party bumper sticker, or even posting on Tumblr in favour of a candidate! So I’ll get it out of my system now. Vote Labour! Vote Stuart Nash!

In New Zealand the school year is longer. It generally starts at the beginning of February, and has four 10-week terms, separated by 2-week vacations. Then the long summer break is 6 weeks long.
So the school year is just under 200 days (there are a few holidays off, but most of them fall during the vacations). It took some getting used to when I...
